Seriously? When will the ever-growing pile of VIPD's moving vehicles and other moving things end? This is ridiculous, as is the over-sized pick up truck labeled something along the lines of "Major Crime Scene Investigations," which is pretty much parked full-time in the new used car parking lot.

Now what happens when we run out of rental vehicles on St. John?

OK, I suck at posting this, but this letter states that not only is the rental vehicle tax increasing to $3.75 per day, but the minimum fine for any vehicle being barged off the island it is licensed on is $1,000 and the possible loss of the agency's business license. I think that there are only about 600 rental vehicles currently allocated on St. John. This is going to get nasty.

Virgin Islanders are americans and can have full rights and vote and every single right of a citizen, the reasonwhy we dont vote yet is the lack of a ratafied constatution and aplication for statehood we have yet to submit one in agreement with the us constatution aply for statehood or to be a district, we are primarily a terattory because of what we have not done rather than the us keeping us out. I say good for us we they want us they should have to compremise with us rather than dictate to us. for all the oh the VI isso bad and so corrupt there are many worse places in the states that make our corruption look tame, from garbage collection in ny to the $5,000 donations for small favors almost every state side elected offical wants. the difference iswe want better and alot of places in the us have given up.

WAPA ALERT:  UPDATE 6 p.m.

WAPA CONTINUES ROTATION SCHEDULE

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority continues to experience problems in St. Thomas’ Randolph Harley Power Plant.  WAPA has implemented a limited rotating power schedule until repairs are completed:

Service will be interrupted from 6p.m. – 8p.m.

Feeder 9D - including Bolongo Bay, Bovoni, Compass Point , Gold  Hill, Hawk Hill, Thomasville and Nazareth (partial)  

Ridge Road – Cabrita Point, Cowpet Resort, Elysian Hotel, Ritz Carlton, Secret Harbor  and adjacent areas.   
All other feeders have been fully restored as of 5:45p.m.

If any other rotations are necessary, it would be announced

(All rotations are scheduled for 2 hours at a time)
Feeder lists are available at www.viwapa.vi.
 
WAPA regrets the inconvenience to its customers and is working to restore to normal service as soon as possible.
 

No loitering.

 New refreshment stand is now located in the back of a pick up truck in the road blocking the thirty minute parking spaces at the end of the dock.  A nice umbrella and some folding chairs in the road make this new business quite welcoming. Grrrrrr.

Argh. "All Vehicle Engine?"

Ok I visited St. Thomas in July for just one day. All I can say is WOW. 

I had a great time and loved the crystal clear water. Me and my cousin 

are thinking about moving .I've done some research but I've still got plenty 

of questions I hope you guys can help me out with.....

1. How much does it cost to have a crate shipped to the Virgin Islands from the mainland?

2. I figure I'd like to live on St. Thomas or St Croix but what are the main differences between the two?

Is one island cheaper than the other?

Does one have better beaches?

3. Do cruise ships visit St. Croix also?

4. How do the snorkeling tours go? Im thinking of buying a boat and offering 2-3 hour snorkeling tours?

Is the market for that already saturated or is there room for more?

Do they make enough income to compensate for their expenses?

How much does it cost to dock your boat?

It would be a crate big enough to ship all of our clothes, some furniture like 2 beds, 

desk, chairs, kayak, etc. i guess a pretty large crate. Not the size that a 18 wheeler carries. 

Right now the main thing holding us back is finding the right boat.

Don't take this the wrong way, donkey, but -- Gather your expense estimates and then double them, 

as you may well find you have to ship it all back, when you find out things here aren't what they look 

like from a one-day vacation.... Starting a business down here is not like starting one stateside, either. 

It might work out for you, but from what you've written, it sounds like you'll need to do a ton more 

research if you're going to keep from making a very expensive mistake.

In 3 days, La Vuelta encircles the entire island of Puerto Rico. The total distance is 375 miles. The shortest day’s ride is 94 miles. And, while the total elevation gain for the entire ride is only 11,000 feet, the few serious climbs on the route are STEEP. Some of the grades exceeded 15% and go on long enough that they’ve got to hurt. Riders are divided into three pelotons. The fast group rode at 25-30 M.P.H., the middle group at 20-25 M.P.H. and the “slow” group at about 18 M.P.H.

So, I had an arrival today. My guests made the 1:00 boat from town, hooray. Love the downtown boat. I was headed for the dock at 1:40 p.m., and much to my surprise, saw this:

Access to the dock is closed, for what I thought was a steel pan fundraiser. I drove back around, through the round-about, and somehow managed to back up to the dock. THERE WERE PEOPLE EVERYWHERE. And me, holding my little sign, and looking for my guests. All of a sudden, a helicopter swooped down, a DEA cigarette boat circled the harbor, the ambulance took off, and some "drunk man" was arrested and handcuffed while trying to board a power boat. Food was being sold in the park, and the steel pans were being set up. They were also doing tours on the Coast Guard cutter, tied up at the dock where the ferries should have been.

I felt like I was hallucinating. And I still could not find my guests. I asked someone at the dock what was going on, and his reply was something along the lines of "Safe Boating Week, and they are doing reenactments". Really?  Yup, your tax dollars at work;  all of the bells and whistles were out in full force today. I was actually too stunned and befuddled to pull out my camera.

I finally learned that the passenger ferries were diverted to the old barge dock at the creek. Cluster fuck? And that the main ferry dock had been closed since at least 8:00 this morning, according to the car rental agent, and she said departing guests were freaked out. Apologies to my guests who left this morning, I had no idea.

So, welcome to St. John! I don't think Tourism was at the creek to hand out free rum punches. It must have been a very warm welcome to arrive here, after traveling all day, to a harbor filled with every sort of local and federal agency swooping and swarming around. Enjoy your visit!
