As some of you read, we are flying into San Juan at midnight the night beofre our 8:30 am flight to St. Thomas. I was going to book a room at the Best Western in SJU but someone suggested possibly sleeping in the terminal since by the time we get our luggage and into our room then get back up to get ready and head back to the terminal we will really only have about 4 hours of sleep. And I can think of a lot better things to do with $200 on STJ than crash in a dingy hotel room at San Juan airport.
So...my question is...after we pick up our bags, what is the best place to set up camp for a few hours of shut eye? I am assuing we can't check our bags that early and hang out at our morning gate. So just anywhere outside of security then? Are there better places than others? I have not yet had the pleaseure/displeasure of experiencing thsi airport but I assume it is relatively large compared to most Caribbean airports. This plan isn't set in stone yet so any input would be helpful.

Close, but no cigar!
Someone (me) was too chicken shit to take this picture, but I finally got up the nerve when the security guard at Motor Vehicles starting dozing off (although my flash woke him up.) Sorry it's blurry, but I didn't want to be banned for life. It reads "CLOSE" on the closed door. Awesome.

What's up? For starters the caps lock key appears to be stuck on your keyboard.
Darn AT&T (and Sprint).

TSA guy9 - the airport welcomes walk ins without calling ahead and you should be able to sail through TSA and be off the island by noon.

This is the second installment about a registered sex offender and a teacher moving here.

This was not a minor offence. We will be the only people left for him to live with. He has no one else to take him in. I never even thought about his crime effecting me as a teacher, but I believe you all are right. As a fellow teacher or parent I my self would want to know about things like this. I really appreciate all the information everyone has given me!

I had one of those fake 1,000,000 novelty bills, gave it to a lady @ Price smart for a slice of pizza & a Coke.
She stared at it intently, & said"Dats' a dowsand dowllers, me can't make change fer dat"!
I told her it is actually a million, & if she gave me another slice of pizza, she could keep the change!
Her mouth dropped as she held & stared at it.
Finally, I told her the truth that it was fake...
She said "you can get in trobble fo dat"!
Most awesome reply, although I wouldn't have been so gentle:

And if she had gone in the back and called the police you would have to explain to a VIPD officer that you were only kidding about counterfeit currency - good luck then!
Lame-ass comeback:

Another boating mishap...
This photo was sent to me last week, with the following comments: "Tourists, oil pan clean up, rental car, barge, chaos."
Here is the translation: "Tourists backed their rental vehicle on the barge in Red Hook at an angle, when the crew wasn't paying attention, and ripped the oil pan off the bottom of their car when they hit the corner of the ramp. Now the crew is paying attention, and it's complete chaos as they try to clean up the oil."

The first person in line was 18, the second person in line was 33, and the last person in line was 44. Does this make any sense?

What happened STJ? October 07, 2010 10:05AM | Registered: 8 days ago Posts: 2 |
My husband and I were scheduled to come to STJ on Sat. Oct. 9th. We were phoned last night and were told our reservations had to be cancelled due to flooding, lack of drinking water. Any insights would be helpful.

“ Seeing Weddings ”
Sep 25, 2010, 4:29 PM
I was wondering.................where are good spots to get to see weddings on St. Thomas? From an appropriate distance, of course, I don't mean in an intrusive way; I would never want to intrude on someone's wedding! For example, here in Maryland, we have Brookside Gardens, which are beautiful public gardens. It's not unusual to see bridal parties, wedding photographers, etc. as one walks around. I guess that's what I'm referring to. Thanks

And so you picked a house with a resident cat, because why? You want your husband or daughter to end up at the clinic?
Do you have a link to a newspaper article or anything about this? I sure hope not...the villa we're staying at has a "resident cat" and this is where they're boarding the cat during our stay since my husband and daughter are allergic.

Thinking about moving. September 19, 2010 10:09PM |

Ok I visited St. Thomas in July for just one day. All I can say is WOW.
I had a great time and loved the crystal clear water. Me and my cousin
are thinking about moving .I've done some research but I've still got plenty
of questions I hope you guys can help me out with.....
1. How much does it cost to have a crate shipped to the Virgin Islands from the mainland?
2. I figure I'd like to live on St. Thomas or St Croix but what are the main differences between the two?
Is one island cheaper than the other?
Does one have better beaches?
3. Do cruise ships visit St. Croix also?
4. How do the snorkeling tours go? Im thinking of buying a boat and offering 2-3 hour snorkeling tours?
Is the market for that already saturated or is there room for more?
Do they make enough income to compensate for their expenses?
How much does it cost to dock your boat?
etc....

It would be a crate big enough to ship all of our clothes, some furniture like 2 beds,
desk, chairs, kayak, etc. i guess a pretty large crate. Not the size that a 18 wheeler carries.
Right now the main thing holding us back is finding the right boat.

Don't take this the wrong way, donkey, but -- Gather your expense estimates and then double them,
as you may well find you have to ship it all back, when you find out things here aren't what they look
like from a one-day vacation.... Starting a business down here is not like starting one stateside, either.
It might work out for you, but from what you've written, it sounds like you'll need to do a ton more
research if you're going to keep from making a very expensive mistake.

Cost of living
Where can I find such things as auto insurance costs and cell phone service? Not sure where to look.
Re: Cost of living
Is that your extent of COST OF LIVING? I would be more concerned about food, utility costs, lodging, cable, gas etc. Is that what you are looking for?
Re: Cost of living
The cost of auto insurance and cell phone service are the only things I could not find on the V.I. website. I just want to know how much for these two services. Example: My 12 year old Jeep is around $900.00 year for full coverage. Cell phone service in New Jersey is approx. $52.00 a month for 450 minutes with caller I.D. call waiting, long distance etc. for Verizon customers.
Re: Cost of living
If I wanted to be around rude sarcastic people I'll stay in New Jersey!!
