To Move or Not to Move

Hello All!!

My husband and I are beginning our research as to whether or not we would be able to move to the U.S.V.I. I am a teacher and he is an aircraft mechanic and we are looking for some insight from current or former residents on the cost of living, availability of jobs, etc. We would LOVE to purchase a Bed & Breakfast to run so I would also appreciate any information or thoughts you may have on this.

Read "Don't Stop the Carnival" by Herman Wouk.

Why?

So the public parking lot was closed for 2-3 weeks for Carnival, then reopened shortly after Carnival ended. Now, a month later, they closed the parking lot again to paint the parking spaces. What am I not getting? Oh, wait, there I go, asking the "why?" question again.

Oh, this pisses me off! Who paid for this rig?

Together they can:

*Start campaigning on St. John with this expensive and ridiculous truck;

*Name political appointee after political appointee, and then continue to borrow;

*Use over $400,000 of taxpayers' money to make improvements to the governor's private residence;

*Evict seniors from rent-to-own housing communities after their mortgages are paid off;

*Not issue four years' worth of property tax bills;

*Ignore paying 2009 tax returns;

*And jump up for Carnival 2010, without a care in the world.

I guess I am the jackass, after all.

 Revived in 1952, carnival has become the second largest festival in the Caribbean. A month-long series of dazzling pageants and talent shows is held to choose royalty to rein over the festival.  A series of elimination contests to crown top performers are called Calypso Tents. Calypsonions offer satirical commentary on the state of the islands, oftentimes mocking the shenanigans of politicians. 

Nope! Carnival parade is NEVER on a Sunday, and July 4th falls on a Sunday this year. You people are arguing over nothing. And yes, the car rental agencies ARE closed on parade day. 'Nuff said.

I had planned to stay on St. John this year

 from June 27th to July 4th, but when we went

 to book a villa, our rep explained that it will be

 very difficult to leave the island on the 4th of July

 due to Carnival. We're considering moving our 

departure date to July 3 - does anyone know if it's 

difficult to get in/out of St. John on this day?

Everything is closed on July 4th, including car rentals 

so you will have to return your car on the 3rd. 

It will be hard to get a taxi so you may have a very 

tough time getting to the ferry.

I would change it to the 3rd or spend your last night on STT.

I wouldn't say everything is closed, actually, I would say most places remain open. You would have to check with the car rental companies to be sure. They do close the streetdown for the parade late morning. So you would have to get moving early (before 10am). The ferries will be very busy, and town will be congested.

Perhaps you know something I don't but in trying to help friends that wanted to be on island for Carnival, they were not able to find a car rental agency open on the 4th.

Don't stop the Carnival, baby!

Flushed with Success: Public Facility Opens at Lindbergh Bay

A grand opening was held Saturday morning for the Virgin Islands Port Authority's long-awaited Lindbergh Bay Beach Public Restroom Facility. It was an event the likes of which haven’t been seen. It was definitely the place to go.

The fanfare was complete with music, dignitaries galore, a catered lunch, and dozens of beach regulars out to celebrate the new bathhouse.

The construction of the public bathrooms at the beach was made possible by a $200,008 grant from the Virgin Islands government, and additional funding from the Port Authority.
